Despite the improvements of Windows 11, not everyone enjoys working with the new File Explorer. Perhaps, this is why there are so many guides out there about how to revert to its classic counterpart.
While you can use any of the latest guides to do so, you can also consider using specialized apps for this purpose. SwitchExplorer is a tool designed to switch between the default file managers of Windows 11 and Windows 10.
The app doesn’t come with an interface, but rather with a notification that you are about to toggle to Windows 10 or Windows 11 File Explorer, depending on which one you are currently using. Take note that you need to make sure your Windows 11’s version is 22H2 or 23H2, with build revision 3007 or higher.
According to the developer, the idea behind the app is to make registry modifications to the keys that are directly responsible for the ribbon File Explore. The registry entries that are removed or applied can be found on the home page. Again, you don’t need to make any changes manually, as that’s the role of the app.
There are many reasons why someone would want to work and switch between the 2 File Explorer, starting with familiarity. If you worked with Windows 10 for many years, you may find its feature and interface more familiar and efficient to getting your work done.
The ribbon File Explorer of Windows 10 also included direct buttons to actions, whereas the new one includes a command bar at the top with limited options. You could explore what each does, especially as they are not very descriptive.
Then again, if you lack the patience or time, then you can consider using SwitchExplorer to toggle to the classic menu and get things done.
