SynMap is a really cool educational app for Mac OS X that helps you explore all the meanings of a word in a fun diagram. With SynMap, you can easily check out the meanings and relationships of over 145,000 nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs!

Easy-to-Use Interface

The interface of SynMap is super user-friendly. You’ll find a left sidebar to toggle between your search history and synonyms list. At the top, there’s a toolbar where you can access all the app's main actions. The word diagram area takes center stage while the right pane shows all the different meanings of whatever word you’ve searched for.

Understanding Word Meanings

When you look up a hypernym like “word,” it branches out into many meanings! Each major meaning splits into several secondary meanings too. You can even filter what you see on the map based on relations or parts of speech.

Color-Coded Parts of Speech

This means you can choose to show or hide nouns, verbs, adverbs, or adjectives in your diagram. Each part has its own color: nouns are red, verbs are green, and adjectives are yellow. Plus, if you click on any connected dot, it opens up a popup with dictionary definitions!

SynMap gets its power from WordNet 3.0—an amazing online dictionary from Princeton University. It even fetches audio pronunciations from this source! Just remember that you'll need an Internet connection for that.

Bookmarking and Sharing Features

A fun bonus? SynMap lets you bookmark words you're currently looking at! You can also share your word diagrams on social media like Twitter or Facebook. You could email them using your default mail client or even share via AirDrop!
