Taipan

Taipan is a super fun trading game set in the 18th century Chinese Sea. In this game, you sail your cargo to different spots and use your skills to rake in some cash. But watch out! You might run into pirates, which adds a twist to your adventure.

Getting Started with Taipan

When you first jump into Taipan, the game asks for your company’s name. Then you have to pick your starting situation: do you want cash and debt but no cannons, or would you prefer five guns without any money or debt? Your choice can change how the game plays out!

Sailing Through the Chinese Sea

As you sail around the Chinese Sea, you'll visit cool locations like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Saigon, Nagasaki, Singapore, Batavia, and Manila. Keep an eye out for pirates! If they show up, you can choose to fight them and try to capture their ships.

Buying and Selling Cargo

While you're on your journey, you'll buy things like opium, silk, arms, or general cargo. Then it's time to sell it at another port for profit! Just remember that prices can vary quite a bit from one place to another. So make sure you're scoring the best deals possible.

Your Ship's Status

The Taipan panel lets you check your ship's status anytime. If it's damaged from fighting or trying to escape pirates, you’ll need to decide whether to repair it or buy a new one.

Borrowing Money from Elder Wu

If you're running low on cash (which happens!), there's a way out: borrow money from Elder Wu. Just keep in mind that if you don’t pay him back soon enough, he won’t lend you any more cash later on.

The Goal of Taipan

The main goal in Taipan is all about using your business skills wisely. Buy cargo at lower prices and sell it higher somewhere else!

The Element of Chance

And let’s not forget about luck! You could run into pirates while sailing or find that prices aren't great at certain ports. So keep sailing and strategizing!
