tcproute offers convenient means for diagnosing and identifying the routes and traffic that is transmitted across your network, all through simple command-line instructions.
First, before using tcproute for the first time, there are a couple of matters we should address — the instrument is a self-contained package that already has all the needed components for diagnosing your available network interfaces.
Second, because tcproute is meant for Windows OS, you need to have installed the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package, as well as .NET Framework 4 Client Profile, onto your machine. Last but not least, there is WinPcap; this app needs to be installed as well. WinPcap allows for the identification of kernel-level packets, as well as to filter all the data that is being sent through the network stack.
tcproute is a portable application that is ultra-small in size. Once unpacked, ideally, you should initiate it with administrator privileges, and it will automatically show you the entirety of your current network system interfaces, those able to support the transmission of packets across your TCP/IP connections.
The data displayed by this tool includes localhost network adapters identification, the type of connection these establish, and the IP addresses of each instance. To trace a route, what tcproute does is trying to connect to a specified address and port (by user input), starting with a TTL packet of 1 (a congregation comprised of data that is being sent across a network and has a limited lifespan — time-to-live) and incrementing the packet, in ascending order, until the target has been reached.
Simultaneously, after all interfaces will have been displayed, the user is prompted with the option to choose which one of the existing interfaces they want to listen to. After the selection is made, tcproute will proceed to list the local IP and MAC addresses, the MAC gateway, the remote IP address, and, finally, to execute a network analysis for identifying the transmission of packages between your host and the remote nodes.
To summarize, this application is both simple and easy to implement in your environment. Tcproute offers accessibility and can be uploaded onto a USB flash drive or sent across different channels.
