Interactive Globe Features

This app features a fully interactive globe that lets you pan and zoom to your heart's content. You can view it in three different styles: political, geographical, and satellite views. Plus, the maps also show volcanic activity and sunlight!

Stay Updated with Earthquake Data

Not only can you interact with a cool 3D globe to see tectonic activities, but there's also a compact panel where you can browse earthquakes by date, magnitude, name, and distance. You won't need to worry about old info either—it refreshes automatically based on settings you choose.

Event Information at Your Fingertips

If you're curious about where recent earthquakes happened, you can preview each location right on Google Maps! Just check out the Event Information window where the affected area is marked with a bright red circle.

Understanding Magnitude Levels

The app shows earthquake magnitudes using the Richter scale. Different colors represent their severity—earthquakes less than 3.4 Richter are colored green, while those above 4.2 turn orange and anything past 6.5 turns red. The darker the color, the more severe the earthquake was!

Customizing Your Experience

Tectonic also gives you plenty of customization options through its Preferences window. You can toggle things like menu bar status, disable or allow animations, adjust how often information updates, and even change how Earth looks.

Fine-Tune Earthquake Settings

You have control over various details about Earth's appearance too! You can play around with settings for sunlight, atmosphere, main plate tectonics—and so much more! From the Earthquakes settings section, you're able to adjust magnitude thresholds as well as period and quantity of tectonic activities.
