Description
temps
temps is a super simple weather app that uses the OpenWeatherMap API. It lets you check out the current weather and a 4-day forecast for any spot on the globe!
How temps Works
The temps app makes use of some cool open-source stuff like Electron, Menubar, and Charts.js. It sits in your status bar, and all you need to do is click it to see the weather info.
Getting Started with temps
To get going, you’ll need to head over to the temps Settings panel. Here, you’ll enter your OpenWeatherMap API key and hit return. Once that’s done, temps will go online to pull up weather details for your chosen location.
Getting Your OpenWeatherMap API Key
No worries if you don’t have an OpenWeatherMap API key yet! Just sign up for free. Open your web browser, go to their site, find the API keys section in your account settings, and either use the default key or create a new one.
Customize Your Experience
In the temps Settings panel, you can also type in which city you want updates for. Plus, choose how you want your temperature displayed—Celsius or Fahrenheit—and decide if you want that info right in your menubar.
Main Features of temps
The main window of temps shows the current weather conditions along with temperatures and forecasts for four days ahead. Want a visual? Just click on the forecast area, and it changes into a graph that shows how temperatures will shift over the next 24 hours!
Quick Access with Hotkeys
Good news! temps comes with a handy hotkey set by default: Command + Shift + W. This combo will toggle the visibility of the panel whenever you need it—just keep in mind that this hotkey can't be changed.
Final Thoughts on temps
In summary, temps is a nifty little OS X app that connects to OpenWeatherMap so you can easily check out weather conditions and forecasts anywhere in the world.
Once you're all set up, check out your weather info right from your status bar icon. You can pull up more details anytime with just a mouse click or using that default hotkey!
