Tesseract is a super fun first-person shooter (FPS) game that’s built on an open-source engine, which comes from the more popular Cube 2: Sauerbraten. When you first jump into Tesseract, it might throw you for a loop because it has this cool double personality.
The game is all about giving you a satisfying shooting experience while also letting you team up with friends to edit maps. Right away, you might find that people either really love or really dislike this game. It’s definitely a mixed bag!
You can hop onto internet servers to play, but honestly, there aren’t too many out there right now, and they’re not always packed with players. If you'd prefer some solo time, you can also enjoy Tesseract in single-player mode with bots tagging along.
The controls are pretty straightforward and responsive, which is great since the gameplay can get intense. You’ve got two weapons to choose from: a railgun that acts like a sniper rifle and a pulse rifle. But here’s the catch—the railgun takes forever to load, and the pulse rifle isn’t exactly speedy either!
In our view, the gameplay feels super fast while the weapons are kind of slow overall. But hey, maybe you'll nail down your aim and find your groove! A cool feature is the melee attack—you can punch enemies if they get too close when you're trying to shoot.
Now let’s talk about Tesseract's rendering engine; it's top-notch for map editing! It features dynamic omnidirectional shadows, advanced anti-aliasing techniques, HDR lighting, deferred shading, and global illumination.
All of this means beautifully rendered lights and textures that really pull in players who love building maps in Tesseract. While playing as an FPS might feel odd at times, map editing becomes twice as enjoyable!
Tesseract isn’t a bad game by any means; it just takes some time to get used to its unique blend of being both an FPS and a creative tool. So why not give Tesseract a try? You might just discover if its dual focus works for you!
