Description
TimeTag
TimeTag is a handy Mac app that helps you keep track of how you spend your time. By recording your activities, it lets you see how well you're organizing your day and where you might need to make some adjustments.
Understanding Time Tracking
When you open up the main window of TimeTag, you'll find options to create new timers. You can also tag each timer, so every time you start one, it adds a new recording session under that specific tag. This makes it super easy to see what you've been working on!
Setting Up Your Tags
But before diving into tracking, you need to set up your tags and categories in the managers provided by the app. The catch? You can’t create new tags or categories on the fly! Plus, there's no user guide to help out, which can be a bit frustrating as you'll have to figure out the setup all on your own.
The Importance of Tags
This setup step is crucial because if you forget to associate a tag with a timer, those recordings won’t be organized at all. You’ll end up wondering what you were actually working on!
Daily Reports Made Easy
One cool thing about TimeTag is that it quickly generates daily reports from your timer data. It groups everything by tags and categories too! This means analyzing what you've done over the past hours becomes really straightforward.
Exporting Your Data
If you want to use your data elsewhere, TimeTag allows exporting to CSV or HTML files. This way, you can import that info into other apps for further processing.
The iOS Companion App
TimeTag also has an iOS version. However, keep in mind that syncing between desktop and mobile isn’t available unless you upgrade to the Pro version. Until then, you'll need to manually export your data and import it into the iOS app.
A Basic Yet Useful Tool
Overall, while TimeTag offers basic time tracking features and can be pretty useful, getting started might feel a bit tricky without sync capabilities you'd expect from apps these days.
