While the classic radio player may be a thing of the past, there are numerous online radio stations that you can listen to, whether you are interested in music, news or other types of content.
Tray Radio is a minimalistic application that enables you to listen to these stations while running quietly in the background. It can be found in the system tray and is very easy to use, although it would benefit from a few additional features.
This application was inspired by Radio Tray, a lightweight program for Linux. It allows you to add all of your favorite radio stations and switch between them with a couple of mouse clicks, all from an easily-accessible system tray icon.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect this application to offer features you get from advanced music players, but it is a good choice for those who just want a simple method of listening to radio stations from the desktop.
When you click the system tray icon, the application displays a volume and audio balance slider, which can certainly come in handy. However, it would be great if were possible to pause/resume playback with a single mouse click or hotkey.
If you right-click the icon, you can view all the radio stations you have added and select the one you wish to play. Unfortunately, though, these cannot be organized into categories, so finding the right ones can get tricky if lots of stations are available.
In a nutshell, Radio Tray is a straightforward piece of software that can play online radio stations without getting in your way. It is minimized to the system tray and provides you with a convenient way to listen to online radio stations, but there is still room for improvement.
