trolCommander is a cool tool that's a spin-off of the muCommander open-source project. It gives you a dual-pane setup that works great as an alternative to the standard OS X file management system.
What's awesome about trolCommander is that it keeps all the original features from muCommander but also adds some nifty improvements and new tools!
If you've used TotalCommander on Windows, you'll feel right at home with trolCommander. The main screen lets you browse through local folders, check out file properties, transfer items around, compare directories, and so much more.
You can also connect to remote storage using different protocols like SMB, FTP, SFTP, HTTP, or NFS. Plus, there's a built-in Terminal for running shell commands easily!
Need to work with archives? No problem! trolCommander lets you create or open various archive types such as ZIP, GZIP, LST, TAR, RAR, 7z, BZip, ISO, or AR.
Right now, trolCommander doesn't have any official documentation. But don't worry! You can do most tasks with keyboard shortcuts. Just check out the Help menu for a handy list of those hotkeys!
A downside of muCommander is its lack of file search tools. Luckily for you, trolCommander fixes this by allowing searches by name or content!
You can specify text encoding for files and set your source directory. Plus it even scans subdirectories! Want case-sensitive results or need to ignore hidden files? You got it! You can even search within archives.
One exciting thing about trolCommander is its goal to breathe new life into a project that hasn't been updated in a while. It keeps all the great features from muCommander but brings in fresh updates and support for new functions.
