Turba is a free, web-based software that gives you a handy address book application. It's part of the Horde Groupware suite, which means it works well with other Horde apps like IMP. You can use Turba on any platform, and it’s open source, so it's totally customizable!
This contact management tool is packed with features! It supports different backends including SQL, Kolab, LDAP, Horde Preferences, and IMSP. This flexibility lets you set up your address books just the way you want.
With Turba, importing and exporting contacts is super easy. You can handle files from formats like vCard, Pine, CSV, Mulberry, and TSV without any hassle. Plus, creating distribution lists from your contacts is a breeze!
If you're thinking about using Turba, make sure you've got a working installation of Horde Groupware first. You'll need version 5.0 or higher for everything to function smoothly. Also check that your PHP has LDAP or SQL support and that you have the Net_LDAP PEAR package installed.
Just like other Horde applications, installing Turba requires the PEAR installer. So you'll need to have PEAR set up on your system before diving in. The command you'll want to run in your Terminal app is ‘pear install -a -B horde/turba’ to get everything installed.
If you'd rather just install the essentials for Turba without all the extras, you can run ‘pear install horde/turba’. Or if you want all the bells and whistles with binary dependencies included too, go for ‘pear install -a horde/turba’. After you've installed it successfully, don’t forget to check out this page for tips on configuring Turba.
