Twitch can be a pretty cool platform for livestreaming, and the community aspect is not to be overlooked either. Currently, the only way to access it is through your browser, which is fine as it is, but if you're looking for more convenience, then that's about the best you'll get.
That can change, however. Twitch Desktop is an unofficial desktop app for the livestreaming platform, which allows you to watch your favorite content creators and engage with their communities just as you would normally,
This is an Electron-based app, which means that it's not far from being an isolated browser just for Twitch. This can bring about a whole world of convenience, but it's often at the cost of resource consumption. In this case, you can expect for the program to be more than willing to consume more than a few system resources.
The experience remains much like on the web app, so the software works as expected. We were able to log into our accounts, watch any livestream we wanted, and even interact and take part in the stream chats.
Middle-clicking a livestream will open it in a separate window, which allows the user to keep track of multiple streams at any given time. This also extends to being able to chat on two or more streams simultaneously, which can be quite nice if that's up your alley.
We also didn't encounter any problems with ads. It's unsure whether there's an ad-blocker taking effect, or if the advertisement companies just decided to take a small break while we were testing the software, so that's that.
Twitch Desktop is a pretty clear-cut affair: it's a desktop client for Twitch. Nothing more, nothing less, as there were no extra features we could see.
