There are different types of characters to use in writing on a computer, ranging from common letters, and numbers you’re familiar with, ranging to specialized symbols. Sure enough, some can be found in particular font sets, but with the help of Unicode Input by Name, you can easily locate a character by its tag, and have it send to the clipboard.

First of all, you don’t even need to install the application in order to benefit from what it has to offer. This allows you to take it with you on a USB flash drive to use on other computers besides your own, without the risk of affecting the target PC’s stability, because registry entries are not modified in the process.

On launch, the application minimizes to the tray area, so that’s the place to look in case nothing shows up on your desktop. Even so, a compact main window is all you get to work with, but it’s pretty intuitive in its simplicity, making it easy for individuals of all levels of experience to get the hang of things.

The application comes with an impressive library of characters, all shown in a list by their icon, and name. All entries have well-organized naming rules, making them comprehensive, and easy to detect. On selection, the character thumbnail is shown in a slightly larger preview area, so you can take a close look.

With a character selected, hitting the “Copy” button sends it to the clipboard. You can then insert it in most text editors, given they support Unicode characters. The application automatically goes back to the tray area upon copy, but it can easily be brought back up through the Alt + Plus (+) hotkey.

Unicode Input by Name manages to live up to expectations, providing a quick way to search for special characters and symbols to copy them to clipboard, and insert wherever needed. Flexibility comes as a result of portability, while the application stays hidden in the tray area when not used, letting you bring it up with an intuitive hotkey command.
