Uniscan

Uniscan is a software utility that enables you to analyze TrueType fonts, character maps and Unicode text. It gives you the possibility to select and copy characters to the Clipboard to later edit them.

After a fast setup operation that shouldn't impose any difficulties, you're welcomed by a seemingly outdated interface, made from a standard window with a plain and simple design.

In order to select the a TrueType font, it's necessary to double-click the font display. You can also select a font style, size and script.

Once you've instructed Uniscan to count the Unicode range, you can check out the number of blocks for Basic Latin, Latin1 supplement, Latin Extended-A and Extended-B, IPA extensions, spacing modifier letters, combining diacritical marks, basic Greek, Greek symbols and Coptic, Cyrillic, Cyrillic supplement, basic Hebrew, Hebrew extended, phonetic extensions, currency symbols, superscripts and subscripts, arrows, mathematical operators, and so on.

The status bar shows the total characters, glyphs and character maps. Moreover, you can view Unicode ranges of text, scan the best TrueType fonts to display text, look up Unicode point of text, as well as access the character map to select one or more symbols and copy them to the Clipboard.

It left a small footprint on system resources in our tests, thanks to the fact that it required a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. However, it froze and crashed on a couple of occasions after selecting fonts.

We must also take into account that Uniscan hasn't received updates for a long time and likely has compatibility issues with newer Windows editions. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free for non-commercial use.
