Description

Versamap for Windows

Versamap is a cool tool that lets you draw outline maps using 14 different map projections. You can print high-quality maps on any printer that works with Windows, and it even lets you export your creations in various formats like vector graphics (DXF, WMF, ASCII, CGM) and bitmap (BMP).

Features of Versamap

This software comes packed with digital maps from the Versamap Micro World Database. These maps include boundaries for new countries that popped up after the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia broke apart. Plus, it covers areas like Eritrea, Canadian provinces, and Australian states!

More Detailed Maps Available

If you need more detailed maps, you can buy them from sources like the CIA's World Data Bank II or the USGS Digital Line Graph database. You can plot individual geographic features such as coastlines, rivers, islands, and political boundaries right from these databases.

User-Generated Data

You can also plot your own data using simple ASCII format—whether it’s lines or symbols—and add labels next to your data points. Want to customize your text? Use any Windows font! Each text string can have a different font and be rotated by one degree increments.

Mapping Great Circles

This program is great at plotting Great Circles between selected endpoints while reporting course and distance along the way. It’ll even tell you about map parameters and scale errors at certain points!

What Areas Does It Cover?

Keep in mind that Versamap is designed for larger areas—about 200 miles (320 km) across—so it’s not really meant for city maps.
