Most entertainment methods have your eyes glued to the screen and either endlessly scrolling down through funny pictures and clips or enjoying your favorite show. However, video editors might need bits of clips from the web, and not all pages are equipped with a download feature. Luckily, applications like video4pc aim to help you get past such inconveniences.
After a short and uneventful setup process, you are greeted by a rather compact, but well-built interface. All functions you get to work with are in plain sight, so you only need to fill in a few requirement fields, press a few buttons and watch as the target video is downloaded.
However, a closer look reveals the application is not quite what it seems. First of all, it is unable to fetch videos from any website you give it, so you need to try your luck with a few ones. What's more, there's no option to view supported ones, which cuts out a great deal of practicality and you'll find that some popular services are not on the list.
Once you find a link that works, corresponding details are displayed, like server, title, author, duration, type and file size. Hitting the “Download” button gets it as fast as it can on your hard disk drive to a destination directory you can define as default.
A few drop down menus let you select quality that ranges from low to high, but no customizable options, as well as the output format. Downloaded videos are found under MOV, MP4, 3GP, AVI and MP3 formats, which have to suffice.
There's also the possibility to set proxy settings for enhanced safety, and even an option to exclude sexually explicit content. Sadly, functionality seems to be lost somewhere in the development process, because the application failed to download videos in every attempt made from an abundance of sources.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that video4pc is a poor choice when it comes to downloading videos or songs from the Internet. Sure, the interface is intuitive enough and quickly gets you up and running, but the shallow list of supported websites as well as functionality issues keep it far from being a pro of its kind.
Note: There's also video4pc Plus packed with more features if it tickles your fancy.
