One of the many default Windows customization features is related to the mouse pointer. It gives you the possibility to change it to other different styles, while another option is to enhance it with one of the many user-made cursors. Changes are the pointer is an important part of presentations or teaching, and you can emphasize visibility with applications like VisPointer.

It takes only a little while to get the application installed on your computer. On the visual side of things, all features are presented in a compact main window that poses no accommodation problems whatsoever.

As the name might suggest, the application’s core function is to make your pointer visible from a great distance, which helps with presentations or teaching, depending on the case. However, this isn’t done by replacing your default cursor, but literally enhancing it. This means you can keep a custom cursor, and also benefit from more visual emphasis thanks to VisPointer.

The application’s main window is where customization options are done. However, they are a bit shallow, and you only get to pick a visibility pointer, and adjust its opacity through a dedicated slider. The application lets you set a custom hotkey that toggles its state of functionality. Unfortunately, there are several stances where different panels are on a greater layer than the visibility pointer, making it stay in the background.

Once activated, the main window minimizes to the taskbar, and even though it’s also found in the system tray, you can’t only keep it there. What’s more, the amount of preset visibility pointers at your disposal leaves more to be desired. Luckily, there’s a rich online database from which you can grab even more pointers to make your presentations fun, and helpful.

Bottom line is that VisPointer with all its shallow features manages to hit its target by actually emphasizing the cursor without replacing it. Sadly, you only get to use a disappointingly low amount of preset cursors, while customization options leave more to be desired. What’s more, you need to test out areas you want to present, as it can’t stay on top of all instances, or even some custom panels.
