Seeing keyboard input on the desktop can be helpful in a number of scenarios, such as when you are recording a video tutorial or while streaming. What’s more, it could prove helpful for users who are learning to touch type.
Visual Keys is an open-source program that provides you with a very simple way to display key presses on your desktop. It offers no advanced features, which may be an issue for some, but it is lightweight and very easy to deploy.
First and foremost, you should keep in mind that this is a very simple program, and it is also in the early stages of development. It offers a very limited feature set, though more is probably planned for future releases.
For now, Visual Keys can be used as a basic key press indicator, and the fact that it is portable is certainly a big plus. You don’t need to install anything before running it, and it leaves no traces behind.
Once you’ve launched the executable file, a small virtual keyboard will be displayed on your screen. When you press a key, it will be indicated on the on-screen keyboard.
Unfortunately, nothing can be customized about the look and behavior of the keyboard, and you can only close the program by right-clicking its taskbar icon.
It would be great if more keyboard models were added in the future, as well as the option to change its dimensions and the highlight color.
On the whole, Visual Keys is a fairly rudimentary application at the moment, but it is worth keeping an eye out for future releases. It can be useful for those who record instructional videos or streamers, and is lightweight and fully portable.
