VPN Activator is a free and user-friendly tool that helps you set up an L2TP VPN server right on your Mac. It's super easy to use, even if you're not a tech whiz!

What You Need

The cool thing is all the files you need are already on your Mac. So, you won't have to worry about downloading any extra Apple files through VPN Activator. Just make sure your internet router is set up correctly to let L2TP traffic through to your Mac, and you'll be ready to connect to your home network.

Getting Started: How To Use VPN Activator

• First, configure the IP address range for your VPN clients.


• Next, choose the DNS servers you want to use.


• Create a username and password for security.


• Set a strong VPN Shared Secret. Make it hard to guess!


• Now, click the ON switch to save everything and start the VPN server. If everything goes smoothly, your server should fire up! Just keep in mind that the initial status check isn't super reliable yet.

Configure Your Router

• Forward ports UDP 500, 1701 & 4500 to your Mac. Open Airport Utility, go into Advanced settings and select Port Mapping.


• Add a new rule by clicking the “+” sign and fill in all the required fields. Don't forget to enter your own Mac's IP address in the Private IP Address field!

Connect Your Devices

• Set up the VPN settings on your device.


• Activate it, and voilà! You should now be connected securely back to your home network!
