VPN Lifeguard

In some cases, a VPN connection is carried out using Microsoft’s implementation of the PPTP (point-to-point tunneling protocol), despite the general recommendation from security experts against using it.

One of the flaws of running the VPN this way is that the connection can break without warning at one point and leave your traffic exposed.

In order to prevent this, one developer built an application that can automatically block access to the Internet and reconnect to the VPN (virtual private network).

VPN Lifeguard is its name and it does not require installation as it can be ran by simply launching the executable file after extracting the content of the downloaded archive.

It comes wrapped in a minimalist interface that shows the list of available networks and the user-defined applications it manages.

The configuration panel is the most important part of the product since it allows making the VPN connection settings. It also includes the possibility to add the programs you want to be reloaded once the secure connection is restored.

Another option permits restricting the Internet access unless it is carried through securely, using the VPN. Once everything is set you can enable its monitoring.

Additional configuration available in VPN Lifeguard refers to the way it is started; for more comfortable usage it can start with the operating system and minimize to system tray.

VPN Lifeguard is very easy to use and it should not create any trouble, even if you are not familiar with VPN connections and how they works. It can be used only with the VPN PPTP.
