The application is installed on your computer before you realize, giving you a chance to check out the set of features in a short while. What’s more, the main window directly shows up on screen so you can choose the picture folder you want to use as a source for the new desktop slideshow.

You don’t get to select individual files, but rather the content of an entire folder through the browse dialog. Additional information is shown in a statistics panel, such as the number of detected pictures, and the scan time. Moreover, you can make the application run with Windows to have it ready when you reach the desktop.

Note that the wallpaper changes as soon as you select the source folder. There’s a button to refresh the list, and even to change on the spot. However, closing the application kills the process as well, and the next picture doesn’t come in unless you run the application again. For a faster approach, you can assign a hotkey command to the shortcut to instantly launch it.

Unfortunately, this means you need to change the wallpaper yourself every time it gets too old, because there’s no other automatic options besides changing it on startup. Moreover, pictures need to fit the screen by default, and there are no image fill options.

Bottom line is that default customization methods are not difficult to use, and pretty rich in configuration options. However, Wallpaper Alterer is far from at least meeting basic demands, since the process can’t be automated, and no function to set screen attributes.
