Customization starts with simple things, and when it comes to your personal virtual space, the desktop background picture is the first place to turn to. Windows already has a slideshow feature for your picture collection, but there are other, third-party alternatives like WallShow which enhance the way these are displayed, and changed.
The application usually sits quietly in the tray area, changing your wallpaper automatically. However, you still need to bring up the main control window at least once, so you can create a picture library, and go through the set of options to configure position, and other behavior options.
You’re free to add multiple pictures in the playlist. This needs to be done through the playlist editor, and using browse dialogs for an entire folder, or individual picture. File formats like BMP, ICO, JPG, JIF, KOA, JNG, IFF, LBM, MNG, PBM, PCD, PCX, PGM, PNG, PPM, RAS, TGA, TIFF, WBMP, PSD, CUT, XBM, and XPM make sure you can load just about any kind of picture.
Playlists can be saved to file under the application’s specific format, allowing you to create multiple galleries according to mood, places, themes, and more. Once source folders are configured, you can initiate the slideshow, but it’s a good idea to pay a visit to the settings panel before.
Here you get the chance to specify the frequency at which wallpapers change. Values can be for hours, minutes, and seconds, with a minimum interval of 10 seconds. Alignment options can stretch a picture to force it on the entire screen, center, or tile pictures.
In case you don’t choose to stretch a wallpaper, you can pick a background color to fill in blank spaces whenever such an item is encountered. Moreover, the application can be set to change wallpapers once at start, continue the show from where you left off, or behave normally.
There’s an additional clock brought up on your desktop. Sadly, it’s not fitted with any customization options whatsoever, and the default style, and shape might not appeal to everyone, or blend with some desktop designs, and wallpapers.
WallShows wants to help you get rid of daily routines by placing a new wallpaper on your desktop every now and then. However, customization options leave a bit more to be desired, and doesn’t really bring anything new compared to default methods built into Windows.
