Do you like to keep your desktop nice and tidy? And if you do, do you find it annoying that windows pop-up chaotically and ruin your perfect order? Whether they're part of an app or just a result of File Explorer doing its thing, the windows will just open in random places that have nothing to do with the symmetry that you have tried to create.
If you are constantly frustrated by this, then you should probably get help. You can easily find it in the form of a program called Window Centering Helper.
Once you install the application, you will be prompted to its minimalistic control panel, where you have no more than two options that you can check or uncheck. The first is called “automatically center new window”, and even though it’s self-explanatory, I’ll do my best to fill this review with redundant words (sorry, I need to eat).
With the first option checked, each new window you open will be automatically centered on your desktop. While for apps that don’t run in fullscreen this is a good thing, File Explorer windows will most likely cover one another.
The second option allows you to press the Shift key three times to center a window. While I appreciate that the program offers a shortcut that instantly moves the window in the middle of the screen, I think that “3 x Shift” is just a weird choice for a shortcut; unfortunately, there’s no way to change that.
To be honest, there’s not much to add about the application. It’s lightweight, minimalistic, and runs in your system tray, so it doesn’t bother you in any way. Whether it’s actually useful depends on how much you like to have your windows in the center of your desktop. If, for any reason, you need that kind of order on your screen, than you should definitely use Window Centering Helper.
