Window Detective Portable

Designed as the portable counterpart of Window Detective, Window Detective Portable is a small-sized and simple-to-use software application that enables you to inspect the windows of open applications.

As there is no setup pack involved, you can save the program files anywhere on the disk and just click the executable to launch Window Detective. Otherwise, you can move it to a pen drive or other removable storage unit to directly run it on any PC effortlessly. It doesn't modify the Windows registry configuration.

The GUI is user-friendly and consists of a single frame that lists all open windows automatically at startup, so you can view their properties when it comes to the window class, handle, parent, owner, dimensions, position, size, client dimensions, styles, and style bits. This data can be saved to file with the .xml format.

The software utility lets you edit their properties. For instance, you can make them invisible or to stay on top of other frames, as well as adjust their size, styles and position on the screen.

A search function is put at your disposal, enabling you to look for windows by text, handle or class. Plus, you can apply advanced filters for the parent, styles, process, thread ID, or others. Window Detective also lets you study system information regarding metrics and colors.

Unsurprisingly, the app left a small footprint on system resources in our tests, using low CPU and memory. It had a good response time to commands and didn't hang, crash or display error dialogs. Window Detective contains some helpful features for examining windows, and it can be easily handled by anyone.
