The desktop can sometimes feel like a pretty limited and cluttered space. Modern iterations of Windows make it possible to use more desktops, but even this can be insufficient. However, there are various alternatives like WindowSlider which can stretch the width of your desktop to infinity and make room for all windows in their full size.

Once installed, you can go ahead and launch it to see what it can do for you. The core function instantly activates, and the application minimizes to the tray area so it doesn’t take up any precious desktop space. There is a configuration window you can access to set up general behavior and hotkey commands.

All windows are targeted by default, but there’s no way to choose which are affected. However, with the automatic arrange option enabled, every window is stretched to vertically fit, and all of them are aligned horizontally with a customizable distance between borders. Scrolling is easily done by keeping the cursor close to one of the edges of the screen.

The application also relies on hotkey commands for more comfort. There are some default functions assigned, but you’re free to configure slide commands, centering the active window, and switching to the next or previous one. The margin between windows can be configured, as well as when to center the active one.

Switching through windows can also be done through a pair of arrows which can always sit on the desktop. Sadly, there is no built-in option to make the application run with Windows, but you can add a shortcut to the system Startup folder so that it’s ready by the time you reach the desktop.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that WindowSlider is a neat tool which is sure to make working with an abundance of windows on a single desktop a lot more comfortable. It can feel a little rough around the edges, but it lives up to expectations and flawlessly functions.
