Winds is a cool app that brings together your RSS feeds and podcasts into one tidy spot. It’s open-source and works on Windows, Linux, and even in your web browser. With Winds, you can manage all your favorite news sources and podcast series from a single interface. Super handy, right?
RSS feeds have been around for quite a while now. They help you keep up with news from various websites easily. When you first launch Winds, it asks about your interests so it can suggest relevant feeds just for you. This makes staying updated feel effortless!
If you're new to podcasts, this app is an awesome place to dive in! Winds gives recommendations based on the same interests you picked for your feeds. You can listen to all those great shows without having to switch apps!
The podcast player in Winds is pretty solid, too! You can browse while listening, skip ahead or go back if you missed something, and even speed up playback when you're short on time.
Now, the user interface feels a bit like a browser. While that’s not terrible, the lack of visual customization is a bummer. Unfortunately, there aren’t any alternative layouts available right now.
A big downside? No dark mode! Seriously, it’s hard to imagine any desktop app these days not offering this feature—especially one designed for reading.
All in all, Winds delivers some impressive features by combining both podcast and RSS reader functionalities into one app. While the UI leaves something to be desired, it's still a great pick if you're looking to explore new content and keep everything organized!
