winMd5Sum

An MD5 checksum is a hexadecimal number that consists of 32 characters and which is computed on a file. It has been developed to check the data integrity of a file.

Thus, if two files have the same MD5 checksum value, then they are identical. winMd5Sum is a tool developed to help you calculate and compare these values.

For example, this type of application can come to your aid when you want to check the integrity of a downloaded file. If the MD5 checksum value of the downloaded item is the same as the one from the website, then you know for a fact the file is not corrupted.

The interface of the tool is based on a standard window where you can use either the file browser or "drag and drop" method to import a file for analysis. The MD5 checksum value can be observed underneath the file path.

All you have to do is copy and paste the MD5 checksum of a secondary item and set the tool to compare these values; a message pops up and informs you if they are equal or different.

The simple-to-use program requires a very low amount of CPU and system memory. It has a good response time and quickly compares two MD5 checksums. We have not come across any issues throughout our testing; winMd5Sum did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs. However, the tool has limited functions. But we must keep in mind the fact that winMd5Sum has not been updated for a very long time.
