Command line utilities can accomplish everything with a GUI can. Sure enough things can be more complicated, but also less prone to errors. As such, wkhtmltopdf delivers you the means to save entire HTML content from the clipboard either into a PDF file or an image saved to a local file, with the possibility to specify dedicated parameters.
The package contains a couple of executable files, namely wkhtmltopdf.exe and wkhtmltoimage.exe. It supports both x86 and x64 architectures, coming with dedicated executables for each. While the first bundles HTML content into a PDF document, the second is used for pictures. This is accomplished through the QT Webkit rendering engine.
Both functions work well under command line and PowerShell instances. Running a function delivers the set of instructions and necessary switches which can be used to manipulate the output.
When it comes to building PDF files, the application provides options to collate, no-collate, create a particular number of copies, grayscale, generate low quality PDF, set orientation, page size, specify title, and even print.
The counterpart for saving images is fitted with some switches of its own. They enable you to crop the original picture and specify output size specifications.
At least one input file and exactly one output file need to be set when using stdin or stdout. Both utilities come with extended help if you feel like you’re stuck along the way.
