X-FreeMind

Made as the portable counterpart of FreeMind, X-FreeMind is an approachable and powerful application which lets you create and explore mind maps in a user-friendly workspace.

It can be used for brainstorming sessions at work or common activities at home whenever you intend to come up with a plan, regardless of its type.

As long as you have Java installed on your PC, you don't need to set up anything else. You can drop FreeMind's program files anywhere on the drive and just click the executable to launch the app.

It can also be saved to a pen drive to directly run it on any machine you come in contact with. Unlike most installers, it doesn't modify the Windows registry configuration.

The GUI looks comfortable and easy to work with. In the designer you can create nodes and relationships, and intuitively alter their structure by relying on the drag-and-drop method.

You can customize attributes and the text, split or join nodes, change the root node, insert hyperlinks, or encrypt the nodes, among others. The project can be saved to file and resumed later, exported to other formats, and even shared with other people.

FreeMind provides you with a calendar to help you easily keep track of tasks, along with a time scheduler, script editor for repetitive jobs, and evaluation tool. It supports multiple UI languages, reconfigurable keyboard shortcuts for several commands, and autosaving mode, so there's no risk of accidentally losing your work.

The utility didn't put a strain on computer performance during our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. It had a good response time and minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.

The bottom line is that X-FreeMind delivers a convenient solution to exploring a thought process with the help of mind maps, and it's backed by practical and intuitive features.
