Zone

Zone is a handy little utility for macOS that hangs out in your status bar. It's super helpful for tracking how much time you spend on different tasks. You can only run one timer at a time, but it automatically creates an activity chart for you and lets you export the data to a CSV file.

Setting Up Your Tasks

When you first open Zone, it asks you to set up your tasks in the settings panel. You can add as many jobs as you want, but remember, there's a limit on how many color labels you can use to organize them.

Keeping Track of Time

The text box for naming your task can hold a longer description, but be aware that you won’t see the whole thing in the Zone menu or the task manager window. Once you've set up a task, it pops into your status bar menu, and with just one click, you can start timing!

Reports and Sessions

Zone kicks off a new timer each time you start working on something new. You’ll easily see when each session started and ended in the reports window. Plus, if you're curious about all your work sessions from this week, just launch the Reports window through the Zone menu. It even uses those color labels to help differentiate between projects!

List Mode View

If you prefer seeing things differently, Zone has a list mode that shows all your sessions tied to specific tasks clearly.

Exporting Data

When you're ready to export info to CSV format, you get to choose the timeframe. You can also group data by day or combine sessions if breaks were short enough.

Your Time Management Buddy

In short, Zone is perfect for keeping track of how much time you're putting into projects. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t support hierarchical tasks or create fancy reports. It also has a limited number of color labels.
