FileDate Mover is a handy little tool that helps you move files from one folder to another based on when they were last modified. The best part? You don't have to do any complicated setup or configuration!
Before you dive in, it’s a good idea to create some dummy files and folders to play around with. This way, if anything goes wrong, you’ll have backups of your important stuff. Just keep in mind that this app doesn’t have a restore option!
The interface is pretty straightforward. You’ll see a small window that asks for the source folder where your files are located and where you want them to go. FileDate Mover checks out the last modification dates of those files and sets up new folders organized by year and month.
When we tested it, FileDate Mover created new folders and moved files quickly without crashing our system or showing error messages. It didn’t slow down the computer either, which was nice!
However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. FileDate Mover is quite basic; it misses some important features that could make it safer to use. For instance, it can’t handle files in subdirectories, and during our tests, it didn’t move all the files even though there were no error alerts.
You also won’t get a chance to preview the new folder layout before moving items around, nor can you restore them back to their original spots afterward. So remember to back everything up manually before using this tool!
Overall, FileDate Mover feels like an unfinished project aimed at automatically sorting files by their last modified date. Plus, it's been ages since it got updated.
