Gassmann's Fluid Substitution (formerly called Gassmann's Equation) is a handy software tool designed to help you calculate and create graphs showing seismic velocity changes using the Gassmann’s equation, which is often used in geophysics.
The first thing you'll notice is its clean layout. All the settings are packed into one panel, making it easy to navigate. While the parameters are straightforward to adjust, it's good to have some background knowledge about Gassmann’s equation. This will help you grasp everything better.
One downside is that there’s no help manual included. So, you’ll need to play around with the setup functions on your own to figure out how to complete the plotting process. It can be a bit tricky at first!
The cool part about Gassmann's Fluid Substitution is that it can automatically compute and plot data related to seismic changes based on a set of custom parameters you provide. But watch out! Many of these are abbreviations, so if you're not familiar with them, it might be confusing.
You can enter values directly in the main window or copy and paste numbers from your clipboard. The app generates two graphs that show data about those seismic changes.
On the downside again, this app doesn’t allow you to save your calculations or graphs as files on your computer. Plus, there's no button for clearing all inputs with one click; you'll have to delete each parameter manually.
In testing, users found that calculations were performed quickly! The software doesn’t hog CPU or memory resources either, so your system runs smoothly while using it.
Overall, Gassmann's Fluid Substitution is great for educational purposes when computing graphs about seismic changes. It's user-friendly enough for beginners but does require some basic understanding of geophysics concepts!
