IMfig is a cool tool designed to create a figure in an encapsulated postscript (EPS) file. This figure represents an Isolation with Migration model that comes from analyzing a data set. Basically, IMfig takes output from another program called IMa2 and turns it into something visual!
The IM program focuses on fitting an isolation model with migration to haplotype data from two closely related species or populations. It’s based on methods first developed by Rasmus Nielsen and John Wakeley. With this program, you can study lots of loci at once and even apply different mutation models.
IMa uses the same Isolation with Migration model as the IM program but brings in a new method that helps provide estimates of the joint posterior probability density of the model parameters. This means it gives you more accurate results!
An exciting feature of IMa is that it allows you to run log likelihood ratio tests on nested demographic models. This is super handy for comparing different models and figuring out which one fits your data best.
