LIVE MUF Calculator is a cool tool designed to help you calculate the possible sporadic-e Maximum Usable Frequency (MUF) on VHF during the es season. It does this by using spots received from a DX-cluster. You might find lots of MUF calculators out there, but most of them require you to manually enter spot locators, which can be a hassle.

How It Works

This program connects to a DX Cluster through a telnet gateway link. Once connected, it processes all the spots you see and figures out if they are valid sporadic-e spots. Then it calculates the MUF based on this spot info, including the center locator and where you should be aiming to work DX.

Frequency Calculation

But wait, there's more! The calculator also works out the frequency of traffic. This means it tells you the highest frequency that’s possible for your calculated destination.

A Helpful Guide

The LIVE MUF Calculator serves as your guide for where to beam and what frequency to use. Just keep in mind that not all hams report every QSO. So, sometimes you'll see a higher MUF that doesn't show up because it's never spotted! And don’t forget—sometimes the MUF can be high, but if there isn’t much activity from amateurs, finding out where that MUF is can be tricky.
