Your computer stores all kinds of data, and some take up more storage space than others. Most likely, you also use it to store your photos, which can end up taking a significant amount of disk space. Since we're talking about personal memories, it's surely difficult to decide which pictures can be deleted to free up some space. Evidently, an alternative is to reduce their sizes using a dedicated application such as Loseless Image Compressor.
Although lightweight, Loseless Image Compressor is one of those small yet handy tools that serve a particular purpose and do their job without too much hassle. The application is designed to look for images in a specific folder and its subdirectories, and compress them all to obtain additional storage.
While not necessarily a drawback for some users, the lack of a traditional user interface might not fancy others. Loseless Image Compressor runs in the Windows console only, prompting you to browse for the target folder at launch. Once you do so, you can sit back and relax as the application starts searching recursively for all the compatible graphic files and applies its compression algorithm as soon as an image is found.
A list of all the identified pictures that have been compressed is displayed in the console, and upon completing the task, the application reveals the time it took, along with information regarding the original and new sizes of the images. The compression rate is calculated on the spot as a percentage, typically varying between 10% and 20% in most instances.
Although Loseless Image Compressor seems to do its job flawlessly, there are a few objections that users might have. Apart from the lack of a standard GUI, the application lacks filtering capabilities for file types, size considerations, and other preferences. You cannot create ignore lists or view old and new sizes for individual files. Ultimately, you, as the final user, have no control over how your images will be processed.
