MACFinder is a super handy app that helps you find the MAC addresses and host names of computers on your local network. It’s quick to use and perfect for anyone needing to keep track of devices.
This tool can scan all machines within reach just by entering a local IP address. It was made with network admins in mind, helping them spot any unauthorized devices that might have been plugged into the network. Keeping your network secure is easier with this software!
Getting started with MACFinder is a breeze! The installation doesn’t take long at all. Just keep in mind that it's ad-supported, which means it may want to install some extra tools or change your browser settings. If you don’t want those extras, just uncheck the box before clicking Next during setup for a clean install.
You should know that you need to have the .NET Framework installed on your computer for MACFinder to work since it was built using Microsoft’s software framework.
The app has an easy-to-navigate interface. The main window is neat and organized, showing all options clearly so you don’t have to dig through menus to find what you need.
When you first open the app, there’s a public IP address listed in the IP Address Range box by default. Make sure to change this to a local IP address; otherwise, the app won’t function properly. In our tests, we found that the specified range didn’t really affect how scanning worked—the tool checked everything automatically.
The results show each valid IP address along with its corresponding MAC address and computer name if available. You can scroll through these results easily but note that there aren’t options for copying or saving this info directly.
Overall, MACFinder is pretty straightforward for identifying MAC addresses and host names in your LAN. While it has some flaws in its search system, it does deliver accurate results based on our testing!
