Packetizer is a handy network tool that helps you capture packets moving across your network. It's built on the Ethereal project and needs WinPcap to do its magic.
This tool is mainly for users who have a solid understanding of network protocols and know how to interpret packet captures. If you're familiar with these concepts, you'll find it useful!
The interface might not win any beauty contests, but it's pretty straightforward. You can easily find the main options and menus, which makes navigating through the different sections a breeze.
Once you fire up Packetizer, it shows you real-time data capture. You can scroll through all the entries or apply filters to see just the info you need.
The main screen has tabs that let you check out specific traffic elements more clearly, like protocols or connections. Each captured packet comes with details that help you figure out what's relevant, including source and destination addresses, a short summary, and timestamps.
If you select a packet, it opens up in another window where you can see all the related protocols and details. There's even a bytes pane for those who want to dive deeper into the hexdump style view!
Now, working with Packetizer isn't always easy—especially since good documentation isn’t easy to come by. But there are features that help make sifting through tons of packets easier; applying filters is one way to tidy things up.
While Packetizer does what it's supposed to do well enough, it lacks many features that could simplify your work. It’s decent but feels a bit outdated compared to other tools available today.
