What is Paessler Netflow Tester?

Paessler Netflow Tester

Paessler Netflow Tester is a handy tool that helps you sort out all those pesky Netflow packets coming from your Cisco router. If you're trying to debug bandwidth monitoring setups using Cisco's Netflow protocol, this software can really come in clutch!

How It Works

To get started, you'll need to enable and set up the Netflow protocol on your router. After that, make sure to give your router the IP address of the computer that's running the Netflow Tester. This way, those UDP data packets filled with Netflow info will be sent right to your computer.

Simple Steps to Get Started

Here’s how you can dive into using Paessler:

  1. Download Paessler Netflow Tester, then kick off netflowtest.exe.

  2. Type in the IP address and port number that you’ve set up as the netflow packet target on your Cisco Router. Generally, going for "any IP" works fine, but sometimes you might need to specify an exact IP.

  3. Hit "Start Netflow Collector" to get things rolling!

  4. You should start seeing entries in the log file for each packet your computer gets. Each line shows when it came in, what version of Netflow it is, how many flows there are, and the IP of each packet (just a heads up: you'll want to use netflow version 5 for PRTG Traffic Grapher).

  5. If you want more details, check "Show Flow Data" so you can see all the flow data too.

  6. If nothing seems to be happening, don't panic! It might just mean that your system isn't receiving any netflow data—maybe due to a router misconfiguration or a firewall blocking those packets.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you're not getting any activity on your logs after following these steps, take a moment to double-check everything. Make sure your router settings are spot on and see if there's anything blocking those packets from reaching your setup!
