Pneumatic Tubes File Router is a handy tool for managing all those files piling up on your computer. We all know how it feels when your system gets cluttered with tons of files, making it tough to find what you need. Windows has its own file explorer, but sometimes you want something a bit more specialized, right? That’s where this application comes in!
As the name hints, this software uses an idea from the old tube mail system that was once popular for sending messages and packages quickly. With Pneumatic Tubes File Router, you can manage multiple destinations and make transferring files almost instant.
This app aims to streamline file management into one single window. You can customize it with frequently used directories and operations. Plus, there are two preset folders available—like media libraries or your desktop—each with its own hotkey.
The items you work with here are cleverly named “tubes.” You can create or edit these tubes by picking an image or icon to represent them. You get to give them custom names and set target directories too! Want a quick access button? No problem! Just link it to your keyboard.
While the concept is pretty cool, some features could use some work. For example, there are limited options when trying to open target directories directly. Files inside a tube get pulled automatically, but you don't get a summary of what's there.
A key part of this app is the conveyor belt feature for moving files around. However, every time you want to set a target directory for the conveyor, you'll have to use a file browser instead of just selecting any tube you've created.
With your files lined up on the conveyor belt, pressing the designated hotkey sends the highlighted file over to its destination folder. But be warned: there's no way to send everything at once, which can be frustrating if you're dealing with lots of files!
You can set up new layouts using custom directories from anywhere on your computer or removable drives—but saving those layouts isn’t an option yet! Also, hotkeys are limited; they only allow single-button setups which makes things less practical.
Pneumatic Tubes File Router might not be the best choice if you're looking for flexibility in file management. The way it handles tasks means you'll often work one file at a time without many support options like hotkey combinations or varied layouts.
