What is SDI LPD?
SDI LPD
SDI LPD is a handy print daemon that helps you take print jobs from a remote computer and send them to a Windows printer. Pretty cool, right?
What SDI LPD Doesn't Support
Before you dive in, there are some things SDI LPD can’t handle:
- Mail when printed
- Plot CIF (CalTech Intermediate Form) files
- DVI files
- Postscript files
- Raster files
Key Features of SDI LPD
Here are some key features of SDI LPD:
- It follows the standard LPD protocol.
- You can use it with any Windows local or network printers.
- You have the option to pause, resume, or delete jobs. You can even hold jobs in the queue for later!
- You can print jobs to a file instead of directly to a printer.
- You get complete control over the page format!
- You can set a default queue. Any job with an unknown queue name goes straight there.
- EBCDIC to ASCII character translation is supported, plus many code pages.
- The software converts Line Feeds to Carriage Return and Line Feeds easily.
- If you're using IBM zSeries and iSeries systems, it supports SNA Character Strings too.
- You can choose whether to print banner pages or not.
- Sneaky feature: It can run in the system tray!
- User-selectable fonts make it easy to customize your printing experience.

If you want to use SDI LPD, here’s what you need:
- A minimum of 500 KB of free hard disk space.
- A VGA monitor with 16 colors or higher resolution.
- TCP/IP setup is necessary.
- An internet connection or access to an intranet is required.
A Few Limitations You Should Know About
The only downside? It's available for a 30-day evaluation period. So make sure you give it a good test run during that time!
