VirtualWiFi is a cool piece of software that lets you use your computer's wireless network adapter to connect to multiple Wi-Fi networks at the same time. Sounds wild, right? But it’s totally possible thanks to something called hardware virtualization.
There are times when you might want your device to connect to more than one Wi-Fi network. Normally, this would mean using several wireless cards, which can drain your battery really fast and is not so great for devices that run on batteries.
With VirtualWiFi, you can connect to multiple networks without needing extra hardware. It does this by creating a virtual version of your wireless card. This virtual card uses an extra layer below IP, allowing it to switch between networks quickly and easily without you even noticing it.
The design and setup of the VirtualWiFi system focus on performance. It looks at how well the buffering and switching algorithms work, especially in terms of how long they take and how much energy they use. What’s great is that this software works with common IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN cards.
You can tweak settings for each virtual adapter you create. These adapters are always ready to send and receive data whenever you need them. VirtualWiFi makes sure that your single wireless card can handle multiple connections smoothly.
The overall idea behind VirtualWiFi is its adaptive network hopping method. This means each wireless card gets a time slot—called an Activity Period—for each network it connects to on a specific channel. The total time these periods add up over all connected networks is known as the Switching Cycle.
