VisualEther Protocol Analyzer is a user-friendly tool that helps you create sequence and call flow diagrams using data from Wireshark. With it, you can visually trace how packets flow between different nodes, making it easier to analyze all that information.
This software can build sequence diagrams based on IP addresses or ports. It even grabs messages from GTO tunnels and skips over those repetitive RTP or RTCP packets. Plus, it uses regex to find and highlight error scenarios. If there are messages that don’t get reported, no worries! You can bookmark those in a PDF file for troubleshooting later.
When it comes to protocols, VisualEther Protocol Analyzer has you covered. It supports both IPv4 and IPv6, along with Ethernet and wireless connections. On the transport layer side, you’ll be good to go with TCP, UDP, and SCTP.
Before diving into all the fun stuff, make sure to download and install the prerequisites package first. This includes the latest .NET Framework and SumatraPDF. If you've already got those installed, you're all set! Just ensure that Wireshark is properly set up or you'll need to specify where your PCAP or PDML files are from VisualEther's main window.
The interface is super easy to navigate! Besides importing your PCAP or PDML files from Wireshark, you can also specify a field extraction template (FXT) in XML format. Before generating your diagram, take a moment to check out the settings panel so you can adjust the axis for TCP/UDP/SCTP or IP address levels.
You can tweak some additional settings too! Set limits on how many parameters per message you want or how many packets you want per PCAP file. You can change default paths for EventStudio, tshark (the command line version of Wireshark), SumatraPDF, styles, themes—pretty much anything you'd like! And while generating diagrams, you can check out log details as they come together.
This utility quickly puts together diagrams while keeping its resource usage low during our tests. Thanks to its clean interface and intuitive options, VisualEther Protocol Analyzer is perfect for anyone looking to generate diagrams using Wireshark input!
