Just like your car runs on fuel, you body relies on nutrients found in meals you have every day. There are countless recipes all over the world, some of which have yet to be discovered. As such, 1g Food comes as a cool virtual cookbook, providing a rich library of recipes, and even the possibility to add your own.

You're able to take the application for a spin shortly after setup is over, since it only takes a little while to deploy on your PC. The visual design reminds of the classic Windows XP, thus making it incredibly easy for both beginners and experienced individuals to quickly get the hang of things.

A side panel is where categories hold recipes in a tree list. This makes navigation and selection of items a walk in the park. The rest of the space is where viewing and editing is done, and there aren't any additional windows to make usage a pain. Functions are all found under intuitive buttons in the upper toolbar.

One major advantage is the rich variety of recipes the application comes with. It's also possible to go online to download more, but even trying the preset ones can keep you saturated and diversified for quite a while. These include country-specific recipes, as well as specialized dishes and meals. A simple selection reveals details and instructions.

Needless to say that you're free to manipulate existing categories and even add your own. Although view and edit mode are all in the same space and fields, editing requires confirmation so you don't accidentally mess up details. These include recipe name, author, ingredients, and instructions.

It would have been neat to be able to attach pictures, but this is only a minor inconvenience. There are no import options, and exporting only consists of a print function, which can be quite useful if used with a virtual printer.

All things considered, we can say that 1g Food might look and feel like an outdated application, but don't be fooled by aesthetics. On the one hand, the simple design makes accommodation a walk in the park. On the other hand, the rich variety of preset recipes is sure to make it worth your while.
