This lightweight utility is officially released by Adobe to come to the aid of users experiencing stability issues with Shockwave Player, in order to fully eliminate it from the system before attempting a fresh reinstall. Evidently, it can also be used if you only want to get rid of it.

Besides the fact that the downloaded setup file comes in a tiny package, it doesn't actually install anything. Running the setup file deploys a wizard that autodetects your Adobe Shockwave Player installation and associated files, offering to delete everything with the click of a button.

Aside from confirming this action, there's no other intervention required on your behalf. However, Adobe shows a couple of warnings beforehand, advising your to exit any other applications (especially web browsers with Shockwave Player) since web browsers will be auto-closed and you will lose any ongoing work.

The tool doesn't create a system restore point before proceeding with the uninstaller, so it's best you do this yourself (even if it's not recommended by Adobe), just to be on the safe side if something goes wrong and you have to rollback changes. The uninstall job doesn't take long, after which you receive a notification message.

The application worked smoothly in our tests and eliminated all traces of Shockwave Player. One minor setback we can mention is that it doesn't explicitly mention which files, folders or registry entries it removes, in order to give you an overview of the whole task. Otherwise, Adobe Shockwave Player Uninstaller gets the job done.
