AlertCon

AlertCon is a desktop gadget that shows the current AlertCon status at the Internet Security Systems website, namely a barometer on the overall security issues.

This service notifies users of any new virus or other e-threat that has recently spread on the Internet, giving them the chance to prepare their computers for any unexpected surprises.

It is very simple to install and set up even by users with limited or no experience in software programs, since it does not come bundled with any advanced settings.

The interface is based on a small frame that you can move to any position on the screen with the help of the mouse cursor. The threat levels are divided into four areas, and the red needle points to the current one.

AlertCon does not come packed with any settings of its own. It has a good refresh rate and delivers information that matches the one shown on the ISS.net website. We have not come across any issues in our tests, since AlertCon did not cause the operating system to hang, crash or pop up error messages.

The tool is light on the system resources, using a barely noticeable amount of CPU and RAM, so it doesn't slow down overall performance or interrupt user activity. Thanks to the Windows built-in features, you can also make the frame stay on top all the other windows, as well as set its opacity level to a preset value, ranging between 20% and 100%. AlertCon serves its purpose.
