A computer keeps track of files by codes built inside, but it’s difficult for you to do the same, especially if you have to deal with pictures, and text. For instance, it’s easier to identify changes made to a picture by simply looking at it, and is one of the tasks specialized applications like AllSeeingEye can help you with.

The application’s core purpose is to keep an eye out for every changes made inside text files or pictures, and letting you know immediately. This can be done directly from a thumb drive, since there’s no setup process involved. It can be used on other PC without the worry that something can affect stability.

With the main window up, you can start thinking what files you want to keep track of. Unfortunately, you have to limit your needs to plain TXT files, or image under formats like GIF, JPG, and PNG. What’s more, the application can only monitor one type at a time, but this can be easily bypassed by running more instances.

Sadly, drag and drop is not supported, so you need to work with the built-in browse dialogs. Text is shown in a dedicated tab as soon as it loads, and so are picture, but in a separate tab. Changes are only shown when the monitored file is saved, so don’t expect to see changes happening in real time.

The process is impressive, with the application managing to read and deliver results in the nick of time. However, if changes are subtle, you can miss them, because there’s no prompt or notification to show you what got changed. What’s more, you need to constantly look for yourself, because the application has no alert system.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that AllSeeingEye comes with good intentions, but since it’s not meant for LAN use, overall practicality is rather questionable. Even though update interval is impressive, you’re not able to see changes happening in real time, nor what exactly got changed in content.
