Arpoon Checksum

Arpoon Checksum is a checksum calculator for multiple files in bulk. It supports MD5, MD4, MD2, CRC32, Adler, SHA256, SHA1, RIPEMD60 and ELF. This is an approachable application that delivers instant results and saves them to plain text documents or HTML webpages. It doesn't require installation.

The interface is clearly outdated but it's easy to navigate. One or more selected files can be dropped into the main app window to immediately find out their full paths and signatures. Alternatively, you can drag a folder to automatically make calculations for all containing files. Directories are scanned recursively.

By default, only the MD5, CRC32 and Adler hashes are displayed but you can customize the columns from the options panel. Results can be viewed in hexadecimal or encoded MIME 64 mode, copied to the Clipboard with one click, as well as exported to TXT (CSV mode with ; separator) or HTML (code or page with UTF-8 encoding mode).

Moreover, you can find out various statistics, such as computing time, number of computed files, file types and size, or average speed and file size. You can also examine detailed file properties, like short path, date of creation, access and last modification, and attributes. The list with files can be cleared to start everything from scratch.

We haven't encountered any unpleasant surprises in our tests as far as stability is concerned, thanks to the fact that the utility didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources, as it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly.

Although it hasn't been updated for a long time and its interface needs some major improvements in the graphical department, Arpoon Checksum turns out to be a speedy and reliable checksum calculator.
