While a bright screen makes visuals more vibrant, it can be very hard on the eyes in low-light conditions. Many users lower their monitor’s brightness late at night, but having to do this every day can get a bit tiresome.
AutoBright is a very small utility that aims to automate this process. It can dim your monitor when the sun goes down automatically, and then restore the default brightness after sunrise.
The application doesn’t need to be installed before use, so you can get started instantly. It should detect all available monitors, provided they support DDC/CI. A maximum of three devices can be managed at once.
AutoBright is minimized to the system tray upon launch, and you can configure it by right-clicking the tray icon. From the settings, you can set the normal brightness and the dimmed value for each monitor.
It is important to remember to provide your coordinates in order to ensure the sunrise and sunset times are correct. The program uses an external API to process the given coordinates and determine your location.
If the start and end times are not to your liking, you can add an offset to make the transition start earlier or later. You can specify exactly how long the transition should be.
The application also offers another interesting feature, allowing you to configure an external program that should be run automatically while dimming, with or without additional arguments.
AutoBright is a great choice for users who need a relatively simple tool to help them manage screen brightness. Unlike other popular tools, it does not alter color temperature in any way, so image quality will not be affected.
