AutoSaver is a small-sized and very simple-to-use piece of kit that automatically saves all changes to the current document you're working on, in order to prevent data loss in case you forget to save the file or accidentally exit it. It features just a couple of intuitive options that address all kinds of users, whether they are experienced with computer software or not.
There is no setup pack involved, which makes AutoSaver portable. It means that you can drop its EXE file in any directory on the hard disk and just click it to run, as well as save it to a USB flash disk or other removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC that you have access to, without previous installers.
Worth taking into consideration is that AutoSaver does not modify in the Windows settings, nor create additional files on the HDD, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Once started, the small program creates an icon in the system tray for itself, where it sits quietly and does its job without interrupting the user's normal activity on the PC.
As far as configuration is concerned, you have only two options: it is possible to select the autosave interval by picking a preset value from the list (15 or 30 seconds, 1, 5 or 10 minutes), as well as ask AutoSaver to run at every system startup until further notices.
The application saves data only in the current document you are working on, so it ignores any other opened files whose windows are not active. Although this may seem obvious, you should also know that, if the file has not been previously saved by specifying a name and location, AutoSaver's first prompts up the corresponding dialog before anything else.
CPU and RAM consumption was minimal in our tests. After getting used to Autosaver, you actually forget the application runs in the background, thanks to the fact that it's not intrusive. It worked smoothly in our evaluation, without causing Windows to hang, crash or pop up error messages.
In a nutshell, AutoSaver is a must-have tool for anyone who frequently works with programs that don't have an autosave feature built in. Its only downside is that it does not let users set custom time intervals, nor select multiple windows to simultaneously apply the autosave to.
