Videos are usually enhanced with different effects, and distortions to bring you into the right mood, or simply to look cool. For instance, with applications like Axogon Mutator you’re able to create various layer effects from animated, randomly generated textures you can save as clips, and later on bundle in your projects.
Accommodation is one of the last things you need to worry about, thanks to the simplicity in design. Most of the space is where all management options are stored, with a large preview area so you can view, and interact with generated animated textures. On the side, generated items can be saved for later use by simply dropping them over the collections tab.
The applications uses special algorithms to create animations of generating textures, which also change colors. The code behind textures can be viewed, and copied, but there’s no possibility to edit, or paste new chunks of code to help generate more complex textures.
There aren’t any preset textures to start from, and mutate to new design, but nor do you need any, since most designs are results of random input. To help you out, texture complexity levels can be set. The maximum value dictates the complexity of the mutations, and texture styles used, while the minimum value stands for smoothness, with a high minimum value resulting in a lot of static.
Coloring method is picked from a dedicated drop-down menu, and you can choose from different combinations of red, blue, and green, as well as monochrome. Hitting the “mutate” button creates variations of the center texture, while the “random” function changes the entire set completely.
Output is always a video file, which can either be under the AVI, or QT format. Related options are used to specify resolution, length of the clip, frame rate, and whether or not to include fields, which helps for further editing of the resulting video.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Axogon Mutator comes in handy for creating neat video effect layers you can apply in future projects. The application comes with a decent variety of configurations, as well as the option to randomize texture sets. Even so, you feel like you’re not given full control over the operation, especially because source code can’t be edited.
